A minor road heads south out of Punat towards STARA BAŠKA, 12km distant, a tiny place clinging to a narrow coastal strip at the base of the sage-covered slopes of the 482-metreVeli Hlam. This would be the most beautiful spot on the island if it wasn't for the unsightly holiday homes, and there are several small stretches of shingle beach - the best of which is in Oprna Bay 2km north of the village, visible from the road as you descend from the direction of Punat. There aren't any buses to Stara Baška, so you'll need a car to get here - unless you want to walk here over the hills from Batomalj near Baška.
